Puppy & Kitten Care

The Best Care for Your Young Companion

When you welcome a new puppy or kitten into your family, we know you want to do everything you can to make them happy and healthy. Puppies and kittens are not just smaller versions of adult dogs and cats. They have specific needs and challenges that MyVet is proud
to offer in a comprehensive wellness package.

Puppy and Kitten Essential Vaccinations

Vaccinations protect your puppy or kitten from serious and potentially fatal diseases like rabies, distemper, parvovirus, feline leukemia, and more. At MyVet, we offer all of these core vaccines and more. We customize your new pet’s vaccination plan based on your pet’s lifestyle, risk factors, and health status, to ensure they receive the appropriate vaccines at the right time.

Puppy and Kitten Deworming

Deworming eliminates intestinal parasites—such as roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, and whipworms—that can infect your puppy or kitten. These parasites can cause diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, anemia, and other harmful issues in your pet. They can also pose a risk to human health, especially children and people who are immunocompromised. We’ll advise you on the best frequency for deworming your pet to ensure they stay healthy.

Preventative Medications for a Pest-Free Life

A pest-free pet is a happy pet. Preventative meds keep your puppy or kitten from getting infected by external parasites like fleas, ticks, mites, and lice. We offer a variety of safe and effective products to prevent these parasites from harming your pet. We will help you choose the best product for your pet based on age, weight, breed, and health condition.

Microchipping:
The Gift of Safety

We offer microchipping services as part of our commitment to safeguarding your pet. Microchipping is a simple and permanent way to identify your puppy or kitten if they are lost. We recommend microchipping your puppy or kitten when they are old enough to undergo the procedure.

Kitten and Puppy FAQs

How can I help my puppy or kitten have a positive experience at the vet?

Having your puppy or kitten feel comfortable early in life when going to the vet can make future visits much less stressful. At MyVet, we may recommend “happy visits” for your young pet. During these short visits, your pet can come in for treats and positive interactions with our team without receiving any treatment. These experiences help young pets build confidence and create positive associations with veterinary care.

When should my puppy or kitten start vaccinations?

Puppies and kittens typically begin their vaccine series at around 6 to 8 weeks of age. Because young pets are still developing their immune systems, they require a series of booster vaccines given every few weeks until they are about 16-18 weeks old. If your pet waits too long between boosters, the series will need to be restarted, so be sure to stick to the schedule!

Does my kitten need vaccines if they will be an indoor cat?

Yes, even fully indoor cats should have their core vaccines. These vaccinations protect them in case they escape outside or are exposed to another cat. The rabies vaccine, in particular, is required by law for all cats.

When is it safe to bring my puppy to the dog park?

We strongly recommend that you wait until your puppy has completed their full series of core vaccinations before visiting dog parks or other high-traffic pet areas. Having all of their vaccines reduces the risks from exposure to contagious illnesses like parvovirus and distemper. We will let you know when your puppy is safely protected enough for social outings.
