Sick Pet FAQs

Does MyVet see pets for emergency care?

MyVet does not treat pets for medical emergencies or critical care. Pets experiencing life-threatening emergencies will be referred to an emergency veterinary hospital for advanced care. We see pets in Chesapeake that are sick or have non-critical injuries during our business hours.

What should I do if my pet swallowed something toxic?
If your pet may have eaten something toxic, contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 for guidance. There is a fee for their expert services, but you will talk to a professional who will let you know what next steps to take. In the event that your pet does need to come to MyVet, the representative will contact us with your pet’s case information.
Should I bring my pet to the vet if they’re acting strange?

Yes. Changes in your pet’s behavior can sometimes indicate an underlying medical issue. Behaviors such as lethargy, hiding, reduced appetite, or restlessness mean your pet should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Please contact us if you are concerned about your pet.

MyVet provides veterinary urgent care during regular business hours in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Moyock, and Grassfield for sick or injured pets needing prompt attention. Walk-ins are welcome.
