End-of-Life FAQs
When is the right time to say goodbye to my pet?
This is a difficult decision. Signs that your pet’s quality of life may be declining can include unmanageable pain, difficulty eating or walking, loss of interest in favorite activities, trouble breathing, or more bad days than good ones. If you would like to talk with experienced professionals, we welcome you to schedule a quality-of-life consultation with us for a compassionate, honest discussion.
How do I know if my pet is suffering?
Pets can sometimes hide pain and discomfort, so changes in behavior can be the first sign that something is wrong. Withdrawal, restlessness, loss of appetite, accidents in the house, difficulty standing, or changes in breathing can show that your pet is uncomfortable. If you are concerned about your pet’s comfort or quality of life, our veterinary team can evaluate their condition and discuss supportive care options.
What happens during the pet euthanasia process?
Our goal during euthanasia is to provide a peaceful, gentle experience for both you and your pet. There are two steps to the process. First, your pet will be given a sedative to make them comfortable. When you are ready, they will then be given an injection that painlessly ends their life. If you have any questions, we can walk you through the process in more detail.
What cremation options are available for my pet?
MyVet offers aftercare services through a crematorium partner. We can walk you through specific options or give you details ahead of your pet’s appointment. If you would like, we can also give you information about keepsakes available through our crematorium partner.
With deep empathy, MyVet provides veterinary end-of-life care and peaceful, compassionate euthanasia services for dogs and cats in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Moyock, and Grassfield.
